  1. 40g dark chocolate, finely chopped
  2. 430g (2 cups) caster sugar
  3. 250ml (1 cup) milk
  4. 150g butter
  5. 225g (1 1/2 cups) self-raising flour
  6. 190g (1 1/4 cups) plain flour
  7. 50g (1/2 cup) cocoa powder
  8. 3 x 1/8 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda
  9. 3 eggs
  10. 40g milk chocolate, finely chopped
  11. 40g white chocolate, finely chopped
  12. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  13. Chocolate curls, to decorate
  14. 375g unsalted butter, at room temperature
  15. 750g (5 cups) icing sugar mixture
  16. 2 tablespoons milk
  17. 200g dark chocolate, melted, cooled
  18. 200g milk chocolate, melted, cooled
  19. 2 x 30g pkts Cadbury Flake chocolate bars, crumbled

The instruction how to make Triple-choc Flake Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 180C/160C fan forced. Grease a round 19cm (base measurement) cake pan with melted butter and line the base with baking paper.
  2. For the dark chocolate cake, place the dark chocolate, 2/3 cup caster sugar, 1/3 cup milk and 50g butter in a large saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring, for 2-3 minutes or until smooth (do not boil). Set aside for 5 minutes to cool slightly.
  3. Whisk in 1/2 cup self-raising flour, 1/4 cup plain flour, 1/3 cup cocoa powder, 1/8 tsp bicarb and 1 egg until well combined. Spoon into prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. For the milk chocolate cake, clean and reline the pan. Place the milk chocolate, 2/3 cup caster sugar, 1/3 cup milk and 50g butter in a saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring, for 2-3 minutes or until smooth (do not boil). Set aside for 5 minutes to cool slightly.
  5. Whisk in 1/2 cup self-raising flour, 1/2 cup plain flour, remaining cocoa powder, 1/8 tsp bicarb and 1 egg until combined. Spoon into prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. For the white chocolate cake, clean and reline the pan. Place the white chocolate, 2/3 cup caster sugar, 1/3 cup milk and 50g butter in a saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring, for 2-3 minutes or until smooth (do not boil). Set aside for 5 minutes to cool slightly.
  7. Whisk in 1/2 cup self-raising flour, 1/2 cup plain flour, 1u20448 tsp bicarb, 1 egg and the vanilla extract until well combined. Spoon into prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. For the buttercream, use electric beaters to beat the butter in a bowl until pale and creamy. Gradually add icing sugar. Beat until combined. Beat in milk until light and creamy. Beat in the melted chocolates until combined.
  9. Spoon 1 1/2 cups buttercream into a bowl. Add the flake. Stir to combine. Place the dark chocolate cake on a serving plate. Spread top with half the flake buttercream. Top with milk chocolate cake and spread top with remaining flake buttercream. Top with the white chocolate cake.
  10. Spread top and side of cake with a thin layer of plain buttercream. Place in fridge for 30 minutes to set. 11 Place remaining plain buttercream in a piping bag fitted with a petal piping tip. Use a ruler to mark 2.5cm-wide stripes around the side of the cake. Pipe ruffles using the ruled lines as a guide. Arrange chocolate curls on top of the cake.
